Silk  Painting  in  East  Sussex

I am now able to offer a relaxing two or three day weekend silk painting break at my home and studio in Battle East Sussex from October 2022.
-
This can be all inclusive with accommodation, meals and wine etc provided, or you may arrange your own outside accommodation and meals.
-
For further information about Battle town see the link below

-
Battle is accessible by train from London and by car via the A21. Parking can be arranged if required.

My home is a Grade 2 listed cottage circa 1680 - 1700 , a heavily beamed and truly charming period house close to the high street and its wide range of facilities.
-
These include Battle Abbey, the site of the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings plus a range of ancient buildings and shops offering accommodation and a wide variety of interesting items including food and drinks.

The studio where we will work is set in my species rich garden and a short walk from the house.
Organic Tea/Coffee/Soft drinks and biscuits are all included whilst working at the studio

The weekend will be based around the use of silk dyes and resists such as Gutta.
-
The dyes we will use are Dupont and the silk will be Habotai 8 or 10 .
Habotai is a soft, lightweight, lustrous silk made wth a tight, plain weave and very fine yarns, it has a limp, soft, thin hand and a slippery, smooth texture

We will look at and learn about colours, colour mixing/variation and the variety of different silk fabrics which are available.
-
You will stretch and pin your fabric pieces onto a wooden frame, learning how to create the necessary tensions for painting
-
You will discover how dye reacts with the fabric of silk , how it moves through the weave rather than on it and how to control that movement
-
You will explore how dye is affected by the use of water , alcohol or salt both before, during, and after the application of dyes
-
I will show you how to use Gutta, a wax based resist , to control the movement of dyes within the fabric and to work with Gutta to create designs for painting
-
You will have the chance and support to experiment with ideas and technique on small silk fabric pieces.
Then when ready, to create one or two larger pieces of work of your choice up to 0.50 mtr x 0.50 mtr. These I will three hour steam fix and post on to your desired address once ready.
-
Studio time with me on each of the two/three days will be between 10.00 and 16.00 with a one hour break for lunch.
Should you wish to work on alone in the studio outside this time it can be arranged with no difficulty
-
There are only two places available on any weekend.
This ensures my personal attention to your creative experience

There are many beautiful Hotels/Air B+B/Cottage rentals in and around the town of Battle and booking in advance is advised.
