Can we see the wood for the trees

Silk painting on Habotai 8 silk using Dupont steam fix acid dyes 45 cm x 45 cm. Chilly day listening to Wish you were here and Obscured by Clouds. Floyd still cut it in a changing world.

For me at the time it was about the busyness of modern life, the speed of change. I was and am concerned by the separation of people from life, our lack of care for the life we are so lucky to have and the unique ecosystem that makes it all possible.

The picture touches on the simple beauty we pass by as we look for individuality, personality, and humanity.

" There's things happening in the earth ,fracking cant be one of them, come on people see the light"

Silk painting on Habotai 8 using Dupont acid dyes, 45cm x45cm. White wax and freehand brushstroke. Bright and cold with Broken Social Scene in my ears .

"Every tiny piece of every single life makes a whole lot of living"

Silk painting on Habotai 8 silk using Dupont steam fix dyes. 90cm x 90cm. More very wet days, seems so much and is actually more than enough for oh so many people. Nasser Shamma fills my head with mellow sounds.

The whole picture is actually a little larger than what is shown.

“All the flowers“

Silk painting on Habotai 9 silk using Knaizeff dyes.

This fabric became a blouse which now lives in California.

" It keeps on keeping on, they're fighting on the streets in Turkey, somethings got to change all over"

Silk painting on pure silk Taffeta using Dupont acid dyes. 45cm x 45cm. A difficult piece but worth the time, sunshine and clouds with Gorillaz and a little Chopin.

 "Comes around ,comes around"

Silk painting on Habotai 8 using Dupont steam fix acid dyes,45cm x 45cm.White wax resist, freehand brushwork. Cold day,Babyshambles and Concretes in the air.

In time it all comes around , often obviously and occasionally out of the blue. The circular process is natural ,it is life in action. It's continuity ,like breathing , allows memories and experiences to fall into place ,rearranging reality as time edges forward around us .

" Every now and then, know the moment"

Silk painting on Habotai 8 silk using Dupont acid dyes,45cm x 45cm. Wet and cold when sun didn't shine,Gomez in the air today.

" Stormy is the story, push replay"

Silk painting on Habotai 8 silk using Dupont steam fix acid dyes. 45cm x 45 cm. Storms ravage England and England is shocked, climate change coming close to home, step by step. Underworld pacing the dye.

"Losing our inheritance, ages of knowledge, a planet of life, plundered, our home"

Silk painting on Habotai 8 silk using Dupont steam fix acid dyes.freehand,90cm x90cm. A truly tiring start to another year, sounded in with classic soul alongside loose folk and a melange of acoustic rock. This is the year when the climate chickens start to roost.

Organic onions

Silk painting on Habotai 8 silk. With an acidity of 5.00-6.00 ph Onions work well with acid dyes on silk.

The potential problem is that the silk is weakened by the acids if left to long.

The red colour here is a raspberry and even the texture has been left on the silk. overall the silk stood for two carefully supervised days before organic material was removed.

Evolutionary

Silk painting on Habotai 8 using Dupont dyes and various natural ingredients from the kitchen and street vegetation. An experiment like many others , teasing new ideas into play.

After we have gone

A large silk painting 1.2 x 1.2 mtr on Habotai 8 silk using a mixture of Knaizeff and Dupont dyes along with black wax Gutta.

The picture depicts the village where it was painted being reclaimed by Nature once our species has gone. The picture was painted in the studio open to the street  and passing tourists in France.

Over the weeks it took to complete many people came in to watch and talk about the picture itself.

The title led to many in depth conversations about climate change and the realities of both our changing world environment and ways we live.
