Each offering a variety of interesting items
and quality local produce including
food, local wines and beers, antiques,
clothing and art.
The studio where we will work
is set in my species rich garden,
a short walk from the house.
Organic Tea, Coffee, Soft drinks and a light
lunch are all included in the cost
whilst working at the studio.
Your weekend will be based
around the use of silk dyes
and resists such as Gutta.
The dyes we will use
are Dupont and the silk
will be Habotai 8 or 10.
Habotai is a soft,
lightweight, lustrous silk,
wth a tight plain weave
and very fine yarns.
It has a limp, soft, thin hand
and slippery, smooth texture.
You will stretch and pin
your silk fabric pieces
onto wooden or metal frames,
learning how to create
the necessary tensions
for painting.
Discovering how dye reacts with the fabric,
and how to control that movement.
Exploring how dye is affected by the use of
water, or salt, both before and after
the application of dyes.
We will look at the different colours and the
use of Gutta, a water based resist.
This stops the movement of dyes within
the fabrics weave, keeping colours isolated,
thereby stopping them from bleeding into
each other.
Use of Gutta allows us to create
designs for painting.
You will explore ideas and techniques
on various small silk fabric pieces.
Then when you are ready, create one or two
pieces of your own design
up to 0.50 mtr x 0.50 mtr.
Or, should you wish, one design piece
and a hand hemmed silk scarf.
Your finished works will be
three hour steam fixed and
posted on to your desired address
once ready.
Studio time with me on each of the
two/three days will be between
10.00 and 17.00 with a short break for lunch.
Should you wish to work on alone in the
studio for longer, this is possible
with no difficulty.
There are only two places
available on any weekend
allowing you the creative space
to truly enjoy your time
here in Battle.
The cost of the weekend
including all materials,
tuition, light lunches
and steam finishing is
£300.00 for two days or
£400.00 for three days
per person payable
by cheque or cash
once booking
is confirmed
or on arrival.
Should you wish
I am able to offer one or
two hour drop in sessions
by arrangement at
my studio.
This can be as one offs
or on a regular
drop in as best suits you.
These sessions will
cost £30.00 per hour
with all basic materials
including silk fabric.
There is also a one day option, which will
give you a very basic hands on creative
introduction to the art of silk painting.
The cost for this one day option is £150.00.
Bookings can be arranged
and any further questions
or queries quickly
and helpfully answered
by contacting me directly
through my email details below.
